Dear women, today I've been thinking of tackling a subject that has to do with your personal walk with Christ. Being a Christian woman is a great thing, but when it comes to fully subjection to God's word far exceeds the out loud confession.
Your main objective in life should be first and foremost to worship God. How can you do that? Well, by kneeling before Him, for there's no place higher than at His feet!
AT HIS FEET
There is a humble posture in the Bible which God is so appreciative of, and Mary is the example when it comes to this rule. Mary sought to follow Jesus, so she sat at His holy feet. The posture itself brings us back to the difference between the creation and the Creator,
Isaiah 66:1, "Thus saith the Lord, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?"
The best way to love the Lord is to be at His feet. This is the reason why Jesus Christ came here on Earth: to be the image of God and help us get to know God, starting now and throughout eternity. Obviously, the main reason why Christ was manifest in the flesh is to provide an infinite payment for the sins of the world so that those who truly believe on Him sincerely have everlasting life. But, our main focus in this blog is the dichotomy between Martha and Mary, between earthly and heavenly.
Luke 10:38-42, "Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus' feet, and heard his word.
But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
Notice what Jesus said in regards to His assessment of Mary and Martha. He was well-pleased with Mary, because the first thing she did was to WORSHIP Him. Ladies, it does not matter what troubles you might be preoccupied with as long as the first thing you do is to worship God. Put Him first in your lives. Mary put away worldly things to commune with her Saviour. She was following the exact design for her existence.
Going back to the Bible passage, Jesus paid a visit to the two sisters: He found one working for Him and the other one worshiping Him. It does not mean that what Martha was doing was necessarily wrong, but Mary exposes that great virtue, that Christian attitude that a woman should have in the first instance towards God. God created man to worship Him in the first instance, not to work for Him. Work SHOULD FOLLOW the act of worship. If you work without worshiping and glorifying God, the effort is vain before the LORD. Physical work is a must in order to provide, so it is God-ordained, and laziness is a sin, yet there is a divine priority system set for us to follow. "The physical things of this life have their rightful place in our lives, but when we are excessively enmeshed with activities and mere things, while neglecting our intimacy with God, we should be convicted of possessing misdirected and sinful priorities of the heart." The true contentment comes from worshiping, not mere working, and Mary found fulfillment in the Person of Jesus Christ, unlike Martha who was preoccupied by earthly things. No doubt, Martha denied the movement of the Spirit in her heart in leading her to the Saviour’s feet.
Moreover, the passage makes a distinction between being wallowed in the temporal, like Martha, and relishing on the eternal, like Mary.
Does your life reflect that of a Mary or that of a Martha? How does Jesus find you: caught in the whirlwind of worries, anxieties, levity, pettiness, and materialism, or meekly settled at His feet by putting Him a priority and love God supremely?
Mark 4:19 “And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.”
Mary is the type of woman who's always caught up at Jesus' feet in the Bible.
John 11:32, “Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord [...]”
Notice how Mary calls Jesus Christ LORD, just like the thief on the cross who got saved faster than the speed of lightning.
Additionally, Martha also called Jesus "Lord",
Luke 10:40, "But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, [...]"
because she also loved God, she also believed in God, but she prioritized other things that are not eternal. In fact, Jesus loved both of them, but He stressed the importance of worshiping God firstly.
John 12:3, “Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.”
As a closing thought, Mary was that good servant representing the intentions of God towards men when it comes to being a servant worshiping the Creator. She found grace, honour, and favour with God by humbling herself at Jesus' feet.
James 4:6-8, "But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded."
Ladies, how is your walk with Christ? He is the only One Who can purify our hearts and cleanse us from all unrighteosness. God is with us ALL THE TIME when we seek Him sincerely: no need of appointments, no delays, no priorities to Him when it comes to your need for Him; He is simply always there to listen to you as Friend, Comforter, Brother, Physician, and most importantly as God.
Jeremiah 29:13, "And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart."
With Christ's grace,
Denisa
